Are you a bit surprised to see the
title?? Pudding and that’s too with posto (Poppy seed/ Khaskhas) ??? Sounds weird,
right?
Actually, Posto is the most trusted friend in a Bengali kitchen,
especially for Ghoti (the natives of West Bengal). It can not let you down… in
any form, prepared with anything. It does not go wrong, be it with vegetables
like alu (potato), jhinge (ridge gourd), patol (pointed gourd), fulkopi
(cauliflower), Penyaj (Onion) or even kumro (pumpkin) and danta (drumstick); or
with rui machh (Ruhu fish) and chicken.
Postor bora is such a mouth-watering
preparation that, in the never-ending fight between ghoti and bangal (the
natives of Bangladesh), it can bring victory for the ghotis singlehandedly!!
Even in your most laziest day, the
simple posto bata (the plain khaskhas paste mixed with salt and a little mustard oil)
can make your lunch a delicious one.
In my native place, Burdwan District in West Bengal,
people are so fond of posto that they can’t miss it even for a single day. No
matter how many other exotic items are prepared, posto should be there!
I am not the exception either. Though
it is not necessary for me to have it on every single day, still I am a damn
fan of posto. Probably this much love, this much passion made me try something like
this… the savoury Pudding, with posto bata. You will be surprised how simple it
is to prepare and at the same time how delicious it is !!
Preparation Time – 10 mins, Cooking
Time – 10 mins, Serving – 4-6
Ingredients:
- Posto (Poppy seed) – 10-12 Tbsp
- Green chilli – 2-3
- Salt – to taste
- Red chilli powder – ½ Tsp (optional)
- Egg- 2
- Mustard Oil – 1 Tbsp + a few drops
Method:
First, make smooth paste of posto
together with the green chilli.
Beat the eggs.
Add the beaten eggs into the posto
paste. Add salt, red chilli powder and oil. Mix together.
Take a covered pot. I generally make it
in a stainless steel tiffin box J Grease the container with a few
drops of oil. Pour the posto mixture into it.
Take a pressure cooker. It will be
easier if you have one with outer lid. If your cooker is with inner lid, make it sure beforehand that the container goes into it properly.
Pour some water into the cooker. Place the
tiffin box inside the cooker. Cover it.
Cook it in medium flame for 8-10 mins. 1-2
whistle is enough.
Remove the cooker from heat. Bring out
the container when the vapour is cooled down.
Your posto pudding is ready. Cut it
into the shape of Barfis… and serve it with hot steamed rice..
Isn’t it simple enough? Please let me
know how much you like it.
Note: If you wish, you can add onion
paste also with the posto mixture. That also tastes very good. But I personally somehow
prefer the without onion version.
